Pre-project work for the construction of a basalt fiber plant

Work preceding the project

Before starting the project, at the first stage, our team selects samples of basalt rocks from the Client’s fields to conduct research on their chemical composition and the possibility of obtaining fiber. Research is carried out in the best laboratories in the world. Next, the samples selected as a result of the study are melted in a laboratory installation and the fiber is drawn. The fiber is tested to determine its physical and mechanical properties

Basalts are a type of igneous rocks formed from a deep, high-temperature aluminosilicate solution. The suitability of basalts for processing into fiber is determined by the properties of the original magmatic fluid: degree of homogeneity, viscosity, melting and crystallization temperatures, chemical composition.

Basalt is an aluminosilicate system with rock-forming elements: O, Si, Al, Mg, Ca, Fe, Na, H, Ti, K and so on. The possibility of achieving uniformity of secondary basalt glass depends on the mineral composition of basalts due to its influence on the temperature and duration of the melting process.

Work preceding the project

The next stage of work preceding the project is pilot industrial smelting of basalt rocks from the Client’s deposit, selected on the basis of research. Melting takes place at an existing basalt fiber production plant. This is the main source of data for determining the optimal production flow diagram and further development of design estimates for the construction of production facilities of a plant for the production of continuous basalt fiber.
